Off-grid inverters and inverter/chargers

An off-grid inverter converts battery voltage (12, 24 or 48 V) to 230 V AC. An inverter/charger also charges the batteries from the mains or a generator and automatically switches the supply when the mains fails. This is the foundation of a backup power system and a standalone off-grid installation.

Manufacturers

Most of the range consists of Victron Energy units, including the MultiPlus-II series, complemented by EPEVER and VOLT Polska solar inverters with a built-in MPPT controller.

What to look for

  • Battery voltage - 12 V in motorhomes and boats, 48 V in homes and larger systems.
  • Continuous and peak power - sized for the largest loads, e.g. pumps and compressors.
  • Built-in MPPT - lets you connect panels without a separate charge controller.
